3 Common Garage Door Problems You Need To Correct

Overhead automatic garage doors are a great addition to any home. They let you open and close the door without ever having to step foot outside of your vehicle. This is ideal on those cool winter mornings when you have to get to work or after coming home from a long day at the office. As nice as these doors are, there are certain things that you have to do to keep them in good working order. If your garage door isn't working properly, it might be attributed to one of the following things.

The photo eye needs to be aligned.

Your garage door has two photo eyes that make it work. They are located on either side of the door. Between these two eyes lies this invisible beam of light that can prevent the door from shutting if it is broken. Anytime something gets in the way of those eyes, the beam is broken and prevents the door from shutting. This is for your safety and protection. However, dirty photo eyes can also prevent the door from closing properly. Even having one just a little out of alignment can cause problems. They are delicate components and have to be cleaned and properly maintained to prevent additional problems.

The track isn't properly aligned.

Anytime the track isn't lined up properly, you are going to have problems. The metal rack your door runs along has to be properly aligned for it to be able to move up and down. If there are gaps between the rollers or in the rails themselves, you are going to end up having problems. The added weight of the door is going to further compound these issues over the course of time until it gets to the point where it is extremely dangerous to try and open your door. At that point, you have no other option than to call in a professional for help.

The garage door slams shut.

If your door just slammed shut without warning, it might be that the tension spring or cables are broken. When that happens, your door could come crashing down on someone walking underneath. This is extremely dangerous and has to be corrected right away to prevent serious injury to an innocent bystander.

If any of these issues sound like something you are dealing with now or in the past, you need to get a professional out to take a look at your door and correct whatever might be going on. Contact a service like AR-BE Garage Doors and Openers for more help.
